May 10, 2012, in response to a question from Representative Hiroshi Hase during the Plenary Session of the House of Representatives
"I consider the mission of politics to be first, forging a society in which everyone can have hope, and then passing that hope down to future generations. These should be in a form suited to the dwindling birthrate and aging population as unavoidable changes within the social environment as well as suited to the context of the present day, a 'new era.' I believe that what comprises the bedrock of nation building is the cultivation of human resources, and also child rearing and education matters. I believe that within politics, the challenges of the proper course for education and of how the public sector should support families going forward are extremely important ones."
