From the January 2 and 3, 2012 radio broadcast of "Information on Policies, Broadcast from the Prime Minister's Office"
"There were really so many things that happened last year. [The year 2012] must be the 'first year for the revival of the economy' and the 'first year for a recovery in employment.' In saying 'the first year,' I mean that this year marks the starting line from which we must continue our efforts into the future. I want to overcome each issue one by one, positioning them as 'the first year of creating a country in which people can have hope'―so that people feel 'tomorrow is going to be better than today'―and 'the first year of creating a country in which people can have pride'―in which people can say, 'I'm so glad I was born in Japan.'"
